Building an office's IT department from an empty building

A local business moving into a new building had no working IT department. I planned and built one — network, cabling, rack, PCs and servers — and still run it, staff security protocols included.

The situation

In late 2018 another local business owner asked me to take over their IT department. In fact there was no viable IT department: the company was moving into a new building and needed someone to plan and build one from scratch.

What I did

  1. Deployed the network, did all the cabling and mounted the entire rack.
  2. Built and set up the staff PCs and the internal company servers.
  3. Drafted custom IT security protocols, and hold periodic meetings with all staff to go over them.
  4. Provide the company's web and mail management through Palma Solutions.

The result

When the company needed to expand in late 2019, I planned and rebuilt parts of the network without disrupting their business. I still look after their infrastructure today.
